Only Love Should Be in The Air

February 7th, 2020

In the month of candy hearts, fancy dinners, and dozens of roses, love truly should be the only thing in the air. You may be surprised to find out that your indoor air quality may have a lot more than love floating around. According to the EPA, indoor air quality is in the top 5 environmental dangers as air quality indoors can be 2-5 times more polluted than the worst outdoor air quality. Since our society has shifted to being indoors about 90% of the time, we really should be prioritizing indoor air quality. At Ferguson Heating and Air Conditioning Company, we want to help you protect your family by improving your air quality. We offer a high-quality maintenance program that will help maintain clean air year-round, as well as selection of products, such as air cleaners, air filters, air purifiers, dehumidifiers, and humidifiers which can dramatically improve your air quality. Better air quality means better health for your family and that says love far more than a box of chocolate. Consider the following tips to prioritize your air quality:

  • Invest in an Air Purifier—The typical home has two types of contaminants hanging out in the air: bioaerosols and odors/chemical vapors. Bioaerosols, such as bacteria, mold, and fungi, are microscopic living organisms which greatly impact your air quality and health. Odors/chemical vapors cannot be removed with an air cleaner. These sorts of contaminants include pet odors, cooking smells, perfumes, tobacco smoke, chlorine, cleaning supplies, paints, solvents, and more. We implement high efficiency air purifiers, which are designed to fit and work alongside your HVAC system.
  • Check Your Air Filter—Your air filter can capture a lot of harmful pollutants which could negatively impact your air quality. Generally, changing your filter every three months is wise for most homeowners. If you have a pet, the guideline changes to every sixty days. When you have a family member who suffers from allergies or multiple pets, you may need to change your filter every month to ensure that your filters are working at proper capacity. Make sure that you buy a quality filter that fits your system specifically. If you are unsure about what filter would be suitable, our team would be glad to help.
  • Manage Your Humidity—Too much or too little moisture can have a dramatic impact on your air quality and health. When a home has too much moisture, it can quickly welcome mildew and mold. On the other hand, if your home is too dry, respiratory issues can be exasperated and your home may not be as efficient. The ideal home humidity is between 40-50%. We offer humidifiers and dehumidifiers so we can help you maintain a healthy level of moisture in your home to promote good health and air quality.
  • Schedule Your HVAC System’s Maintenance—There are so many reasons for maintaining your HVAC system, such as energy efficiency, maximizing longevity, and proper function. If your HVAC system has a broken component or is malfunctioning, your home could be exposed to hydrofluorocarbons, gas, or oil which will diminish air quality. Whether you are enrolled in our maintenance plan or not, making regular maintenance a priority is crucial so give your HVAC system some love.

We hope your February is a special time with your loved ones. Give your Valentine the gift of clean air (and probably still get the flowers and candy) for a present that will keep giving year-round. Schedule your visit with Ferguson today!
