Originally named George D. Ferguson and Sons, our company was founded in 1946 by George D. Ferguson and his son, J. D. The company started out with a focus on manufacturing sheet metal products to ship throughout the Southeast. George had earned an engineering license in 1942. With a deep understanding for machinery, he expanded into heating systems, installing furnaces in homes, schools, and churches.

J.D. Ferguson was liberated from German captivity after being captured as a POW, spending time at Stalag II-B, and being discharged from the U.S. Army. His service to our great nation has been an important part of the history of the company since its founding.

Residential air conditioning becomes affordable for many Americans with more than 1 million units being sold in 1953. After keeping our customers warm for many years, we installed our first air conditioning system in 1958. We see this as a pivotal moment in our company’s history because we only continued to expand our reach into keeping our customers warm, cool, and comfortable.

We grew tremendously as we began installing our systems into apartment complexes. In 1974, Alan Ferguson received his HVAC certification by the State of Georgia. Additionally, our company started exploring solar energy and installed our first solar powered system in 1979. The years to come we expanded to serve the residential and light commercial sectors.

From the beginning, we have always been looking for ways to improve our methods, the systems we offer, and our customers’ comfort. Our focus became the design, installation, and maintenance of new and replacement HVAC systems, dual fuel systems, zone control, humidifiers, air cleaning, and air purification systems. We have always been glad to offer a variety of options, utilizing Natural gas, LP gas, geothermal and electric heat pumps, to suit each customer’s unique needs.

As the local housing market boomed, homes were growing in both size and complexity. We expanded our services to include retail sales and service, with a priority on customer service and satisfaction. This business transition was successfully completed and our emphasis on top customer service continues today. We also added light commercial service and maintenance as a focused portion of our business.

We are excited to announce our company’s 75th anniversary! We would never have imagined how our small family business would grow into an industry leader. Our company is honored to reach this milestone of service. Ferguson Heating and Air Conditioning Company still holds true to our original foundation: integrity, honesty, quality work, and excellent value for our customers. This commitment was recognized in receiving Carrier's 2021 President's Award!
